Sleepio Insomnia App
Sleepio is an app-based treatment program for insomnia that provides tailored cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-I) through an artificial intelligence algorithm. The app has been recommended as an effective alternative to sleeping pills by NICE, potentially benefiting up to 800,000 people in England.
The program costs £45 and includes a sleep test, weekly interactive CBT-I sessions, and a sleep diary. The use of Sleepio has been found to be cost-saving for the NHS and could reduce reliance on dependence-forming drugs.
Genedrive can help identify newborn babies who are susceptible to hearing loss due to the toxic effects of commonly used antibiotics. The test examines the DNA of newborns and quickly identifies those who are vulnerable. The results are available in 26 minutes and do not delay treatment.
Previously, there was no test that could identify this risk fast enough, and alternative antibiotics were not used due to their own side effects and concerns about antibiotic resistance. NICE provisionally approved the test, which will help prevent babies from experiencing a lifetime of damaged hearing.
